Test 2.

Testing

This is a test from an iPad.

Today is…December

Reading

The Library ran a cute Christmas program. The read about reindeers and made some cute crafts:

A lot of our reading and writing was combined with our science, math and art this month.

Science

We played with several science projects from our science project book.

Testing for friction:

States of water:

We looked at momentum and spinning raw eggs:

We made spinners and mixed colours:

(the colour mixing is even cooler if you use mommy’s drill):

The boys were really into the biology books, which started a lot of great learning discussions:

We looked at electrical circuitry, trying to figure out what all the wires and bits in a singing christmas card did:

Math

Giant wanted to find out how big of a ladder he would need to reach a tree house. We did some measurements:

Lots of building (Giant built this, and then asked me which was the biggest, smallest, etc):

And building lots of robots!

I love the ipad for this…it makes following the instructions a bit easier for the boys. And nxtprograms provides awesome projects:

They love making hand crank cars (a combination of snowmobile racers and hand cranks):

And for December, we worked for a few days on a bigger project: Santa and Rudolph!

Isn’t Rudolph cute?!

He had some head issues, which we eventually secured with a rubber band. In the meantime it caused quite a lot of hilarity!

Awesome!

Yum! Baking! Measuring, counting, converting, and most importantly…

…tasting!

Reindeer cookies! We made these to give away. My boys insisted on decorating them…

…since they didn’t find my idea of giving people reindeer poop amusing. (It’s thematic! It’s easy! I thought it was funny…)

Sigh. Oh well. What does it say when your boys are more worried than you about being ‘polite’ or not?

Art

We needed reindeer bags for our reindeer treats:

Making Kites. We had a house full of kids that needed something to do. We cut up squares of paper, brought out the stickers and ribbon, and had a whirlwind of flying kites pulled by flying kids:

Wrapping presents (thematic arts and crafts. Work with me.):

We made an Christmas countdown chain:

Hey look! My house is decorated for Christmas!

We even made some decorations for the tree.

I love the idea of a crown for the top of the tree:

Oh, and some “stained glass” tissue paper crafts:

Sewing new friends:

This took some serious concentration.

…but they persevered:

And made a dang cute bird and bear!

Physical Education

Gymnastics

…inside

(Yup, that’s Galoot leaping along beside Giant. He loves doing what his bigger brothers do!):

Is it just the nature of boys to be either in flight…

…or a blur of movement?

Outside the snow has created a new playground with many opportunities to wear out little boys.

Shoveling:

Creating:

Sorry bud, I can’t toss you outside just yet…

…but you are getting bigger every day!

Crabs

Hermit Crabs came to visit us just before Christmas. They were a Santa gift for another bunch of boys, and had to be kept secret in a safe hideout.

They were actually pretty friendly:

Giant and Ettin weren’t sure they really wanted to touch them…

…and Galoot was pretty sure he wanted to eat them:

Thanks for coming to visit, little guys!

My Budding Artist

This boy is not afraid to get into his work:

He has a talent for sharing concepts through the higher arts:

And he has truly excellent taste:
