The “Talk”…with a 3 year old

Giant: “Mommy, how do babies get out of their mommy’s tummies?”

Mommy: “Um, through the birth canal.” (LOVE that term)

Giant: “But, does it hurt?”

Mommy: “Oh,…yes.”

Giant: “But why does mommies have birf…why does babies come out of mommies tummies?”

Mommy: “Because that’s the way Heavenly Father made us! So we can have babies to love and hug.”

Giant: Ponders this. Then, “What do daddies have?”

Mommy:”….Muscles. So they can hold and walk with the babies at night after mommies feed them.”

Giant: Nods and smiles.

{as a side note, I suspect some of my boys’ earliest memories will be the feeling of being safely, lovingly, and tirelessly carried in their daddy’s arms as he walked them to sleep as babies}
