Today is…Friday Apr 1 2011

We had a gospel message on our way out the door.

“Boys, hang on! Stop running! I want to read you something!!!”

It was about prayer. I think I may just quote the section I read to them for you:

The Savior’s Example

Perhaps the most instructive counsel on prayer occurred as the resurrected Savior visited the Nephites. As He ministered to the people, He prayed after almost everything He did. He healed the sick, and then He knelt and prayed (see 3 Nephi 17:15). After the multitude was baptized, the Savior “departed out of the midst of them … and bowed himself to the earth” and prayed (3 Nephi 19:19). He taught the people to pray, and then He “turned from them again, and went a little way off and bowed himself to the earth; and he prayed” (3 Nephi 19:27).

If the Savior of the world felt the need for constant prayer, how much greater is our need? The Savior clearly understood…that prayer is essential to our earthly existence.

Awesome.

Then we went out for a walk.

We were out of apples—the main snack food in our house—and spinach—the main ingredient in our Green Apple Smoothies we’ve been inhaling at an alarming (and rather cleansing nevermind) pace. So we went shopping!

The boys’ favourite part of shopping?

The horse ride 🙂

True, it is a rather well-loved horse. The leather saddle and straps are torn. The coin box only accepts your quarter with much banging and shaking. But the boys love it. (Ettin was happily on, but it gives a very long ride. Much longer than he likes to stay on for.)

We walked home up the big hill:

Love that stroller!

Giant climbed up some “mountains” next to our house (which look much prettier when they are more snow than dirt):

After naps, Giant and I worked on some more puzzles:

Then he started to label the shapes. Which led to an interesting discussion of the “qu” sound…

…and his writing, “quac” / quack  🙂

When Ettin woke up, we made some General Conference “I Spy” sheets.

We cut out pictures from magazines that were about things we thought they’d talk about at conference,

…and glued them on our pages:

Ready for “I Spy” conference!

Followed by the inevitable and ever needed clean-up:

….

Saturday and Sunday we watched conference,

and had fun finding lots of related pictures!

Wow. I wonder if these boys of mine know, or will know, how much I love hearing from the Prophet and the Apostles of the Church. That I know that we are so blessed and loved by our Heavenly Father, who gives us council and guidance for our day. Not only that, but to have the restored Gospel here on earth, with the incredible blessings—such as the restored Preisthood, Temples, Relief Society, and Scriptures, to name a few—which accompany that.

We are loved.

We are blessed.

I am humbled.
