Today is…Pi Day 3.14 2011

The gospel lesson talked about people who were invited to a wedding feast, but didn’t want to go. I likened this to having Church to go to, but saying you are sick or tired (when you are not really). The lesson suggested asking the children about invitations they had received, and how they felt about the invites. Knowing my son has not received a lot of invitations (he is only 4, after all), I quickly wrote one up for him on an index card, asking him to come to a Pi party that night.

He was elated!!!!

And he insisted on bringing the invitation to the Gym so he could invite his friends to the party.

However, he came down with a horrid ear-ache while we were at the gym. So we cancelled the friends coming over.

He was definitely sadder about not having his friends over then he was about a dreadfully painful ear:

I gave him some Tylenol, but we played it fairly low-key for the day.

The boys spent time playing with puzzles:

And helped me make pies by tasting the ingredients:

And mixing and rolling crusts (and much asking to “taste a yiddo budda” [taste a little butter—Ettin LOVES butter]):

During nap time Giant played with some word mix-up cards…

…painted over some secret pictures I’d drawn for him in white crayon…

…and helped me sort my seeds (by date to start inside or date to plant outside):

An essential skill for any student of mine.

Then we talked about Pi day and what Pi was:

And finished with some yummy, yummy pies!
