Speed Bikes

Giant: “We call them speed bikes, ’cause they go so fast!”

Ettin: ” ‘peed ‘ikes Daddy Bee.” [“Speed Bikes, Daddy Bear”]

We love our “Speed Bikes.”

And we really love our Daddy Bear.

Today is…Friday Oct 8, 2010

Galoot was up earlier and hungrier than usual, so instead of doing our Gospel Picture and Morning Message right away, he nursed and I read some Thanksgiving stories to his brothers:

Galoot served as my page holder while he nursed:

Thanks, Galoot!

We had just enough time to look at our Gospel Picture (Ettin was upset that we were not leaving RIGHT THAT MINUTE):

We discussed how Adam and Eve taught their children about God. I made a plug for homeschooling and noted that Adam and Eve did school at home just like a lot of families we know. Giant asked where their home was. Good question. I asked him what he thought. “Maybe in the grass?”

For some questions I have no answers.

Much to Ettin’s relief we left soon after that.

First to the Gym for a mommy workout/kids playgroup.

Then to Stay and Play. Well, actually they were doing an “Ages and Stages” Birthday thing at the ParentLink Centre, where you fill out a questionaire about their current skills and abilities. Since my boys have both had birthdays in the last few weeks, I took them down to show some support.

They loved it! An extra day at Stay and Play with a chance to play with the toys and do some other fun things with mom. Then they had a cute birthday snack (peaches and graham cracker “cakes” that they got to cover in icing and sprinkles. We sang them the happy birthday song and headed on home with a couple of birthday bags.

Which they promptly opened after lunch:

-noisemakers!

-balls!

-colouring pages!

-play doh

-balloons!

They were really quite tickled.

We finally got to our “Morning” Message after lunch:

(I love Giant’s “Fall” – “FoLL”)

After Ettin went for a nap, Giant pulled out his play doh tools to make good use of his new play doh:

After Galoot nursed and went for his nap, I sat down with Giant to actually work on some hand turkeys.

But he didn’t want to trace his hand.

He wanted to do his own turkey:

Fine with me!

We stuck them up under our tree:

Then Daddy came home (early on Fridays). He stayed with the nappers while Giant and I went out to get a couple of groceries.

But first Giant had to make his own grocery list:

“Candies” and “Vitamins”  🙂

(Yes, I did actually buy the boy some candy):

Giant loves our morning lesson time:

Have you ever seen a boy more excited than this?!

We prayed.

We enthusiastically dived into our Gospel Picture:

And discussed the Temples of old and how blessed we are to have Temples in our day. Giant commented that there was another picture of the Temple with stores in it. It took me a moment, but I think he was referring to the picture of Jesus cleansing the temple in the New Testament.

Then on to our morning message:

Although its been nice to practice reading some easy words with him, I’ve missed having Giant practice his writing. So I think I’ll be encorporating that back into our messages.

I got to hold his toys while he worked:

Tah Dah!

Hmmm, yup. We really do need to keep up with his letter writing practice.

After nursing a Galoot, we enjoyed a lovely walk with friends down to Stay and Play (where Giant enjoyed doing puzzles and Ettin played with kids and toys), and then walked over to the Library. I am really going to miss this amazing weather we are having—sunny and warm in the middle of Fall, how weird!

The boys spent some time reading books after lunch:

Then Ettin and Galoot went down for naps, and I got busy with freezer meals again (Pizza this time!).

I feel like I’ve been a bit neglectful with Giant’s learning time, yet I know that having healthy meals ready to just throw on the stove and eat will help with having less stressful learning time in the future. So I persisted.

Giant helped cut ham. And ate everything he cut.

He also wanted to help roll the dough. But since he like to eat dough too, I encouraged him to play with some Play Doh instead (he is showing me his own little play doh pizzas going into the “oven” here):

And since he can’t be away from me for very long, I soon had company in the kitchen:

So although I felt slightly neglectful, and although I didn’t make turkey hands like I had planned, I think we did get in some good learning time and some good Mommy and Giant time.
