My son got his tongue pierced

Really!

Just not on purpose.

And with a lot of blood.

And a small trip to the emergency room.

(ps, I love small town living where, hauling 3 little boys in a stroller, I can be to the hospital in 5 mins.)

He is fine now:

A close up (because I know you want one):

His brother, too, is doing fine:

And just really wanted me to take a picture of his tongue too.

.

.

.

Tongues are weird.

Just thought I’d throw that out there.

Our Library

A Wonderful resource.

If I know in advance what my theme is for the week, I can search it online, put books on holds, and stroll into the library to pick up a lovely pile of books (like these) that I didn’t have to look for while my baby cried and my toddler tore the library apart.

This is a good thing!

“Apples And Worms” is the theme for us this week.

I was feeling ambitious.

We cut open apples and counted seeds:

I put Ettin down for a nap and then hauled out paint.

I mixed up a LOT of brown paint while simultaneously holding a grumpy Galoot:

I rolled out paper, and we got busy.

At which point Galoot took personal insult to the whole endeavour and started screaming his indignation (Giant was his usual patient self):

I persevered.

Then, as I tried to help paint and Giant painted everywhere and Galoot screamed, I spilled the container of a LOT of brown paint.

All over the bench and floor.

I may have said some questionable words.

I definitely questioned why I was doing such rediculous things at home.

I took a breath.

I put down the screamer, got a cloth, and started cleaning (albeit a little grumpily).

Aware of my audience, I tried to turn it into a lesson (probably the best one he’d had all day):

“If we make a mess, Giant, we need to clean it up!”

“Thats right mommy,” replied Giant. “If we make a mess, we need to clean it up and don’t be mad mommy.”

Point taken.

By the time I had finished cleaning, the screamer was sleeping peacefully:

I worked on letting go of some stress. I even tried to let go of my neurosis about painting in one direction:

But it was hard.

The peaceful time was great though:

And brought to mind some of the reasons we are trying out homeschooling.

In the end, we had this:

Which we will decorate throughout the week.

Raising Bookworms

What is joy?

This is the position we found Giant in the other night:

Actually, we often find him asleep in a book:

Yes, he is actually asleep here:

His little brother is no better:

For my bookworm hubby and I, this is joy.

IS CrEM SHOP

aka

Ice Cream Shop

This was a fun impromptu lesson. Giant was making “ice cream cones” for me during “quiet” time. So I showed him how to make a sign for his shop, and then write up his merchandise.

He wrote up the numbers.

Counted.

And even added.

All the while thinking this was an awesome playtime with his mom.

I might be easing into this no nap time…
