What didn’t we do today?!

We talked about what Temples are for, and why Jesus cast the money changers out!

(snack time seems to be a great time to have and hold the attention of my boys)

I told Giant to get ready for gymnastics, and he decided he needed to find out what the weather was like first:

Aww, just like his daddy. Can’t go outside to check, since the computer would be much more accurate.

While Giant was at gymnastics (his friend’s mommy picked him up), Ettin was adrift:

So I had him help me make some treats.

He obliged.

When Giant got home, he saw that we had been baking and wanted to do some baking too, of course!

So I told him the ingredients for Biscuits while I was cleaning in the kitchen.

He wrote them down with his brother:

Biscit /resupe/flar/shoogr/milc/slolt

[Biscuit recipe: flour sugar milk salt]

Okay, there are a few ingredients I left out. But I was so impressed that he’d written that much by himself that I let him off easy 😉

He and his brother mixed up the ingredients:

Galoot looked on as I fed him lunch:

The boys set aside some quiet time for themselves after lunch (I was keeping Ettin awake so he’d go to bed early), dragging blankets and pillows and books out of their bedroom to soak up some warm sun under the front window:

Then the afternoon was filled with mommy cleaning, and boys busying themselves with:

…taking the garbage out (Giant will do this any chance he gets. If something is in the garbage, then it is full and must be taken out.):

…and doing puzzles (Ettin’s favourite pastime):

We looked at our message:

(apparently it was Friday)

And finished with a book and some biscuits:

Phew.

I started the morning rousting boys out from under the bed:

(Galoot is always hauled by a brother into the boys bedroom if he makes it to the doorway and they see him—they love him to bits)

Where upon I blindfolded my eldest…

And we talked about Jesus healing the two blind men, and how they knew He could heal them even though they couldn’t see Him. We talked about how much Jesus loves us, and that he can help us even if we are feeling spiritually blind too.

Then we went to gym and played and played and played with friends.

Mom had some energy left over, so we went down to the library for their “tales for tots” program. They read the kids stories, sing songs, play games, and do a craft. Giant sat with his friend Beanie, while Ettin came to the little kids room with me and Galoot after he tried pulling the librarian’s books off the shelf several times. He seemed pretty happy to just be able to play with toys instead of sitting on a mat.

The library letter was F, and they read lots of Farm stories. Then they made their own farm:

Great job sweet boy!

What’s Green Wednesday

That little cherry tomato with some tiny true leaves:

And two little new tomato sprouts in the same container:

And three “tomato tree” tomato seedlings:

This morning I rolled out the red carpet for the boys:

Okay, perhaps it was a red baby blanket. Essentially the same thing, right?

We read in Matthew 21 about Jesus’ triumphant entry, and talked about how amazing it is that Jesus came to redeem his people, coming as a King like the prophets had testified. And that the people showed him great respect as he rode on the donkey across clothing and branches, just like we roll out the red carpet for someone we think is important.

I, however, had a distinct lack of respect during this lesson:

And so we also talked about how you show respect to a mommy who is trying to teach you about the scriptures.

Mommy was not happy.

But we are learning together.

Then we went to gymnastics, where I was reminded how ineffective public schooling could be versus one-on-one time with a mom: In general, Giant listened and followed instructions quite well, but then started goofing off as the teacher’s and helpers’ attention was captured by the class of energetic little boys who just wanted to run around. True, it’s important for him to learn to follow instructions and do what is right no matter what his peers are doing, but I don’t think he needs that frustrating lesson taught for 8 hours a day each day of the week. A little bit at gymnastics will be fine. Especially since I’ll fully admit that one-on-one time with mommy teaching gymnastics would be less effective than a great gymnastics teacher teaching a class of busy boys.

I’m done my rant. Thank you.

When we got home, we played some math games where Giant either located different numbers in sequence or matched numbers without crossing over his previous pencil lines:

After lunch, Galoot nibbled on some delicious red and green dye Christmas rice crispies,

…while Giant and I drew and labeled a train track and details, including “bloo drt” [blue dirt] and a “brig” [bridge]:

Galoot’s Favourite Toy

Its just so chewy.
