From Texas!!!

We miss you guys too.

Giant was delighted with this. He read it to anyone who would listen. A few times.

And Ettin spent a while looking a pictures and asking, “What that mun’s (one’s) name?” Just wanting to talk about the wonderful people in the pictures.

Love ya, Texans!!!

Sunday Sweets

Fun cookie alert!

I found this recipe from Jen’s favorite cookies.

But I modified it to be cinnamon instead of chocolate.

Waffle Iron Cookies

1/2 cup butter, melted

LOTS of cinnamon.

2 eggs

3/4 cup sugar

2 cups flour

1/4 tsp salt

(I did grease the waffle iron once, but I think the cookies don’t really need it. I also added some baking powder to a couple, but it didn’t seem to make a difference to the cookies)

Giant and I mixed up the ingredients—he even “smashed open” the eggs himself. (I only started taking pictures when I realized how cute these could look)

I got the waffle iron warming up:

Then I rolled teeny balls and plopped them on the waffle iron.

Cooked them for 1 1/2 mins (90 seconds or so)

Then popped out some delicious cookies:

A fantastic mix of textures: crispy and soft all at the same time.

Wonderful with a blob of whipped cream, and I bet they’d look pretty with a cinnamon glaze drizzled on top.

After gym we came home and played with blocks.

Ettin found colours for me:

Galoot tasted blocks:

Hm. So did Giant.

But in his defense, they were ice cream scoops that we were adding.

0 + 0 = 2 (One brown scoop plus one yellow scoop equals 2 scoops)

[Hm, on second glance that does look like we were adding zeros…I was trying to add pictures of ice cream scoops. Whoops!]

After naps, Giant really wanted to play computer games. I gave him the choice of computer games right away, or watching a show after supper. To my surprise, he opted for the show later. I was quite impressed with his self control!

So instead he played with play-doh:

We reviewed some music:

Read a few stories:

(He even did a pretty good job of reading the top words in the reader)

Then he helped me make cream puffs.

Stir boy!

And we talked about groups of seven. As in, how many cream puffs in 1 group of seven, 2 groups of seven, or 3 groups of seven:

Yummy groups of seven!

Dirt

Do you see it?

Sweet earthy dirt.

There has been a thaw here recently, which meant I had to go poke around in the garden.

I think there might be some edible brussel sprouts still hanging on out there.

Interesting.

But not tempting.

Mostly, I was just thrilled to see muddy goodness where so much white has been lately.

Wind and Snow free,  the boys and I worked up a bit of a sweat raking the pine cones which covered our yard after the wind storms we have been having.

Then, taking advantage of mostly clear sidewalks, we went to Stay ‘n Play.

After lunch and bird watching,

We played with puzzles,

…and read stories.

But mostly, the thing which “loo-med” over our day, was this:

That’s right. Its potty training time.

I’m pretty sure this endeavour will be overshadowing a lot of the learning for this week…or at least be apparent in many pictures 😉
