Joy!

Guess what my Hubby Hero got for me today….

PVC PIPE!!!

and WOOD!!!!!

My heart is all aflutter.

(Hopefully I’ll show you the finished results tomorrow)

Munch Time

I’ve been a little slack in my posting lately, but I have a good excuse.

You see, I have this great big Galoot.

And this Galoot has discovered food.

And he likes to eat the same bite…

…over and over again.

Which means that my posting time is getting a little nibbled into…but we are having fun! 🙂

Burdens Lightened

Though sometimes it seems there is no end to

dishes

laundry

or messes

(these were pictures from my “down time” last night—the stuff I do after the kids go down to bed)

I have found lately that instead of feeling these things are a neverending burden, I can let this time be an opportunity instead.

An opportunity to draw closer to the Saviour. To learn the teachings of the Apostles and Prophets. To welcome a bit of Peace as I’m trying to wrangle some Order in my Chaos.

And so I turn on a conference session, or a CES fireside, or something equally inspiring and uplifting from lds.org:

…and get to work. It has made an incredible amount of difference to my attitude and mood, filling my thoughts with the Gospel instead of with “I can’ts” or “I don’t wanna’s” or “why can’t someone else.” Instead of feeling grumpy towards someone or something, I feel the love the Saviour has for me.

You know that love is powerful when it can make you look forward to doing the laundry! 😉

We were hunting for dinosaurs today…

My friend (the one who gets kids fun stuff to learn with) brought a couple of dino eggs for the boys to hack bones out of and assemble. The kit included a egg with tiny plastic bones hidden inside, a plastic chisel, and a paint brush.

The boys were enthralled:

Ettin approved the flavour of the paintbrush:

And they all worked together to find the incredibly teensy bones in the hard sandy egg:

Here it is, all assembled:

Their friend Beanie stayed with us for the afternoon.

Ettin took careful notes:

We did our music (kinderbach) with Beanie. I love this program! It has nifty videos:

Entices participation:

And gives us something concrete to study (and colour):

Then we baked up some dino bone shaped buns.

Ettin approved the flavour of the dough:

And the boys completely ruined their supper:

(but had lots of fun ruining it 😉  )

Today is…Wednesday Jan 12 2011

My friend recently purchased the same preschool book I refer to for many of my activity ideas. As she is a lot more on the ball than I am, I think I may have to kick up my homeschooling act a bit…

They walked with us home from the gym, and we started our time with picking out a plastic dollar store dino from a bag, and then making sounds like that dino might have made, or walking like that dino might have walked, or guessing what that dino might have eaten.

Then we had a fun snack…

My friend had purchased the oatmeal with “hatching dino’s,”

so we poured on the water…

…watch the dinos hatch…

…and ate some dinosaur oatmeal!

Then we filled pans with wheat (neither of us had wanted to rescue sand from our sandboxes) and plopped in some dinos:

Which kept the boys very busy for the next 2 hours.

After Ettin and Galoot went for naps, Giant enjoyed some computer time—he was particularly attracted to the dino games for some reason:

And I had him write down the names of some of the games he played (to sneak in a little writing practice):

[Dusor/in] “Dinosaur”

[CLiFrD] “Clifford”
