Today is… Tuesday Jan 25 2011

After a bit of a lazy break, I’ve decided I need to get back into bringing a spiritual lesson into our day. We do our scripture study in the morning with daddy, of course. But I feel it’s important to be learning about the gospel in addition to our daily lessons and activities.

Since we are studying the New Testament, I’ll be using a New Testament study guide that has lots of cute object lessons that I can bring down to my kids’ level.

Today, it was Matthew 5:13, where Jesus calls us the salt of the earth:

We talked about what salt is used for (flavour, preserving, antiseptic), and why it is important that salt be pure for those purposes. Then we talked about how if we are to better the lives of those around us and help others return to Heavenly Father, then we need to keep ourselves pure and make good choices (and repent of wrong choices).

Then we used salt to make playdough:

Which we used to make Bears (see, I can do gospel and thematic preschool activities!):

The boys loved making a bunch of little bears and playing “There were 10 in the bed and the little one said,” counting (see, math!) the remaining bears and saying the poem over again.

Then we enjoyed a lunch of peanut butter and jam muffins. Wouldn’t that be a lovely lunch for little bears?

— When I asked Giant that question, he said No. And that they’d probably want berries and nuts. What if little bears cooked muffins, I asked. He shrugged and said they might.

Followed by bubbly milk in some VERY fun cups.
